Turpentine Tree (Bursera simaruba) Torchwood Family. This sreading, aromatic native of the West Indies and Florida is recognized by its smooth reddish bark which peels off in papery flakes. A turpentine-like smell is given off by the tree resin. This resin or chibou has been used in glue, varnish and incense. Other common names for this tree includes: gumbo, limbo, tourist nose and living fence post tree.
